MELKSHAM’S long-awaited eco-toilets are due to arrive at the end of this month, for installation in King George V Park.
The two eco-modular toilet pods use a new technology requiring no electricity or water, instead breaking down waste in a vault using worms, making them environmentally friendly and sustainable.
It was announced in April last year that the eco toilets would be installed in June, which was then moved to July due to an ‘internal reorganisation’ at Healthmatic, the company in Calne which manufactures the toilet pods.
Melksham was due to be the first town in the UK to have the new eco toilets installed; but whilst waiting, an eco-toilet has already been installed in Calne.
However, a spokesperson from the town council said, “We are confident that the eco-toilets will be arriving at the end of this month after several months of waiting and we are excited about having these in the park.”
