WORK to build a new sewerage system in Beanacre is under way, with up to 35 properties being moved from the use of septic tanks on to the public sewer system.
The Wessex Water project, which is expected to be completed by Christmas, will see around 450 metres of new gravity sewer installed in Westlands Lane in the village by contractors Envolve Infrastructure.
A new sewage pumping station will also be constructed at the junction of Westlands Lane and the A350 while around 1.4 kilometres of new sewage pumping main will be laid in the fields to the east of the A350 between Beanacre and Melksham.
In a letter sent to residents Wessex Water said, “The design and delivery of the scheme has been completed with Wessex Water working closely with Westlands Lane residents, with initial work to establish site compounds under way, one of which will be at the site of the new sewage pumping station, and the other off the A350 next to Greggs bakery.
“A section of Westlands Lane will be closed from Monday 5th June until December, with a diversion route for through traffic using Westlands Lane, Corsham Road, Bath Road and Beanacre Road in place. An additional compound will be established off Westlands Lane once the road closure is in place.
“Normal working hours on the scheme will be Monday to Friday 7.30am to 5pm, although noisy plant and machinery will not be operated until after 8am. There will be some occasional Saturday working.
