A MELKSHAM resident who was never expected to ever walk or talk has reached her 80th birthday.
Wendy Lawrence celebrated her birthday with friends from Melksham and North Bradley at Queensway Hall, on 29th April.
A friend of Wendy’s, Sue Mortimer, said, “When Wendy was born at Melksham Hospital in May 1943, doctors told her parents she was not expected to ever walk or talk. How wrong they were! Until she was four years old, Wendy lived on Semington Road and then went to boarding school in Scotland until she was 19 years old. It was there, through her pure grit and determination, that she proved the doctors wrong.
“Wendy makes friends very easily and attends both Queensway Chapel and North Bradley Church who she refers to as her family.
“She still enjoys life with the support of her friends and carers. She loves socialising, especially at the Tuesday Lunch Club and her churches and still loves swimming.
“Wendy reaching 80 years old is truly something worth marking and she thanks all her friends and her church family for coming to celebrate with her and making it a day she will never forget.”
