Volunteer at Canberra Youth Centre – make a difference to young lives

The Canberra Youth Centre is on the lookout for enthusiastic volunteers to help support their vibrant youth clubs.

The Youth Centre, on Spa Road, is seeking volunteers to help at the Tuesday night Juniors Group, the Seniors Club, and the SEND Youth Club. Volunteers are also needed for office support, and the youth club welcomes anyone with admin skills—or anyone who simply wants to lend a hand—to get in touch.

Trustee Jon Hubbard said, “Our Tuesday night Juniors Group meets at Canberra every Tuesday from 6pm to 8pm. We desperately need new volunteers to keep this popular Tuesday club running.

“Whether you’re interested in arts and crafts, cooking, sports, general games, or just hanging out with the kids, this is a great opportunity to have fun while supporting and inspiring young people in a safe and welcoming environment.

“Likewise, our Seniors Club on Thursday evenings is also in need of extra volunteers. This club provides a fantastic space for young people to socialise, develop new skills and build friendships and you can be a part of making that happen!

“For a truly special and rewarding experience, why not consider volunteering with our SEND youth club? Based at our Youth Centre in Atworth, this group supports young people aged 13 to 25 with special needs. Our aim is to make this a normal youth club experience, just like all our others, and we welcome anyone interested in helping. We do ask that if a young person requires a personal carer, they attend with them, as we are unable to provide personal care.

“There is nothing more rewarding than seeing young people develop, grow and gain confidence in themselves. As a volunteer, you will have the privilege of supporting and guiding them, watching their skills and friendships flourish. Every session brings new challenges, laughter and incredible moments, making the experience one of the most fulfilling ways to give back to the community.

“Not sure that working with young people is your thing, but still want to help? We always need extra support in our office! If you have skills in admin or just want to lend a hand with the behind-the-scenes work that keeps our youth centre running smoothly, we’d be delighted to welcome you to the team.”

“To ensure the safety and wellbeing of the young people we support, we ask all volunteers to undertake an Enhanced DBS check (which we cover the cost for). Additionally, we expect volunteers to complete a minimal amount of training in safeguarding and other essential areas to help maintain a secure and supportive environment for everyone.

“Volunteering at Canberra Youth Centre is a fantastic way to give back to the community, meet new people and make a real difference in young lives. If you’d like to join us, please get in touch – we’d love to hear from you!”
