St Mary’s School in Broughton Gifford has kicked off a month of celebrations marking the official opening of its new school library with a special Roald Dahl Day event.
On Friday 13th September, pupils marked the occasion by selling specially made ‘scrumdiddlyumptious’ chocolate bars, with four golden tickets hidden inside the wrappers. The prizes included a family ticket to the Roald Dahl Museum, a book hamper, a book voucher and a selection of ‘splendiferous lickswishy’ chocolate gifts.
“The children excitedly opened countless chocolate bars at the end of the day hoping to be a lucky golden ticket winner,” said Charlotte Godsiffe from Friends of St Mary’s School. “It was a fantastic way to kick off a fabulous new school year at St Mary’s and is the first of many literary events we’re holding this term to celebrate the opening of the library.

“These include upcoming visits to the Bath Literature Festival and our children’s book-themed Scarecrow Trail and Open Fun Day on Saturday 11th October, 10-4pm. Trail maps are available from the school.”
