Residents came together to refresh their wardrobes sustainably at the Community Larder’s recent clothes swap event at Melksham Assembly Hall.
The event, held on Sunday 21st September, was the third clothes swap run by the Community Larder team and saw 250 residents enjoy browsing through quality clothes that had been sitting in people’s wardrobes.
Organiser Adrienne Westbrook said, “The idea behind the scheme is that residents donate good clothes, receive tokens, and then use those tokens to take other items at the event. Any clothes left over will go to the Community Wardrobe in the Round House.”
The Community Larder team has already planned two more clothes swap events next year, on 22nd March and 20th September. “We look forward to getting more residents involved in the idea of sustainable clothing,” said Adrienne. “It saves clothes from landfill and enables people to gain good fashion items by donating their unused clothes that are just taking up wardrobe space.”
The team is also looking into possibly running a one-off Year 11 prom event for local young people, giving them the chance to choose affordable gowns and evening dresses.
