A community centre in Melksham is preparing for a busy summer programme following refurbishment work on its toilets.
The Riverside Centre, next to the River Avon along Millennium Riverside Walk, has completed upgrades after issues with the main drains. A new mixed-use cubicle has also been installed as part of the works.
The centre is now preparing for its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in June, monthly music nights and the reintroduction of a popular cooking course for older men.
The AGM will take place on Saturday 27th June at 10am. Residents are invited to attend, with a free light breakfast and refreshments provided. Visitors will also be able to view improvements made in recent years.
A programme of monthly live music nights will continue on the third Friday of each month. This month’s event will take place on Friday 22nd May due to floor installation works between 12th and 15th May.
The evenings are open to performers and non-performers, with entry costing £3. A licensed bar and free nibbles will be available.
The centre is also planning to repeat a six-week cooking course aimed at older men, following the success of a previous session.
Places will be limited and residents are being asked to register interest in advance.
Chair of the centre, Chris Pickett said, “If you would like a little help with using the food from the Community Larder or food bank to make your money go further, or live alone or have a hungry brood to feed and would like to have a few more dishes of food to enjoy that are easy to prepare – the answer is to ring the Riverside number and get your name down. It is ‘first come first served’ for a maximum of six people.”
