Visitors to the Household Recycling Centre in Bowerhill will need to book appointments from September as part of a pilot scheme being introduced by Wiltshire Council.
The system is being piloted at six HRCs in Wiltshire to help reduce queuing, improve the customer experience and minimise disruption for nearby communities and businesses.
Residents will be able to make bookings from 8th September with visits by appointment only beginning on 14th September. Residents will initially be able to book a 30-minute slot up to one week in advance, with some same-day appointments available.
Wiltshire Council says the length of slots will be regularly reviewed to ensure there is maximum capacity available at sites.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Council said, “The new system is designed to make visits more convenient by helping to manage demand and reduce waiting times, particularly during busy periods.
“The introduction of the booking system will not affect existing opening hours, permit requirements, or accepted waste types.
“Residents are encouraged to use the online booking system wherever possible. Those who are unable to access or use the online service can contact Wiltshire Council’s Rubbish and Recycling line for assistance in making a booking.”
Cabinet Member for Environment, Climate and Waste, Cllr Paul Sample JP, said, “We want our Household Recycling Centres to provide the best possible experience for residents. By managing demand more effectively, we expect to reduce queues, make visits more convenient and lessen the impact on surrounding communities and local businesses.
“The pilot is about improving how the service operates, but the service itself is not changing. Residents will still be able to dispose of the same types of waste; opening hours will remain the same and any existing permit requirements will continue to apply.
“We’ll be promoting the new system over the coming months and encourage residents to find out more and plan ahead before the pilot begins in September.”
