Council urges residents to cut back overgrown vegetation

Melksham Town Council is asking residents to help keep the town’s footpaths and pavements clear by trimming back any trees, hedges or shrubs that overhang public paths.

The appeal comes after reports of vegetation obstructing public walkways in several areas of the town.

The council hopes that residents checking and maintaining vegetation around their properties will help prevent minor issues from becoming larger obstructions and ensure public routes remain accessible.

Cllr Saffi Rabey said, “We have recently received a number of reports from residents about trees, hedges and bushes overhanging pavements and public footpaths.

“Overgrown vegetation can make it difficult for people to get around safely and, in some cases, can force pedestrians into the road. This can be particularly challenging for wheelchair users, people with pushchairs, those with mobility difficulties, and residents with visual impairments.

“We would ask residents to check any trees, hedges or bushes bordering public paths and trim them back where necessary. A little maintenance can make a big difference in helping to keep our streets safe, accessible and welcoming for everyone. Thank you for your support.”
