MELKSHAM gardeners showcased their produce, baking, crafts and floral displays at the town’s annual Flower, Produce and Craft Show.
The Melksham Gardeners’ Society show took place on Sunday 13th September, with Mayor Saffi Rabey presenting cups and prizes to the winners.
Organisers said the extreme weather, pests and diseases experienced this summer had affected some sections of the show, with fewer entries in the fruit class and vegetables also suffering.
Despite this, there were some notable exhibits, including massive onions and parsnips measuring up to three feet long.
Mike Goodhew, secretary of Melksham Gardeners’ Society, said, “The show was again a success. Exhibits in other classes, such as baking and preserves, were at an increased level this year. The Photography Class was, once again, well supported, as was the Handicrafts Section.”
The winners of this year’s show were: Flower Class, Mike Goodhew; Vegetable Class, Mike Goodhew; Fruit Class, Rita Sangster; Closed Class (Yankee Doodle Dandy Dahlia), Mike Goodhew; Young Entrants (ages three to six), Clara Bell; Young Entrants (ages seven to 12), Guy Newman; Floral Art, Sue Mortimer; Preserves, Janey Cox; Baking, Victoria Taylor; Handicrafts, Beth Dark; Photography, Beth Dark; People’s Choice Photograph (Reflections), Fiona Dey; RHS Banksian Medal for Horticulture, Mike Goodhew; Chairman’s Cup (for a knitted dragon), Victoria Taylor; Most Points in Show Overall, Mike Goodhew.
