Residents are being invited to help shape the future of King George V Playing Fields as work begins on a new 10-year plan for the park.
Melksham Town Council is setting up a Parks Working Group to develop a long-term vision for the park, with residents invited to work alongside councillors and council officers.
The group’s first meeting will take place at Melksham Town Hall on Monday 16th November at 2pm. Residents can attend to find out more without committing to joining the group. Residents will also be able to join the meeting online via Microsoft Teams.
Councillor Adrienne Westbrook said, “King George V Playing Fields is the jewel in the crown of Melksham’s green spaces. It is important to continually look at keeping it up to date by investing in its future.
“It has been amazing to see the changes in the park over the last eight years; however, to keep it as an important green space, we need the help and advice of our residents. If you love the park, or use it in whatever way, we would like you to get involved by joining us on the journey.”
The new plan follows a previous public consultation in February, when residents were invited to share ideas for the park, including the proposed sensory garden, the dog park and improvements to the entrances.
An original masterplan was drawn up in 2019 following consultation in 2018. It led to improvements including the splash pad, which opened in 2019, and a new play area in 2021. However, other proposals, including the sensory garden, have yet to be completed.
