WILTSHIRE’S fire service is appealing for new volunteers to help support the stations and engage with local communities.
Volunteers at Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service are tasked with working alongside staff at local fire stations, educating the community in fire safety, and gathering referrals for home visits.
Volunteers can also get involved in service events, such as youth initiatives, station open days and corporate activity.
Neil Chamberlain, volunteer co-ordinator for Wiltshire said, “Volunteering is a great way to make a difference in your community. As well as supporting the fire and rescue service, you can get involved in local events and help people to access the advice and information they need to stay safe.
“Volunteers can be part of a motivated team, wear a uniform with pride, learn new skills, meet new people, support their local community, and enhance their CV.”
The scheme has run for a number of years in Dorset, Bournemouth and Poole, and is now extending into Wiltshire and Swindon.
Anyone aged 18 and above can apply to be a volunteer – you will need to be available for two to four hours per week, and be involved for a minimum of six months. To find out more, call 01722 691281 or email neil.chamberlain@dwfire.org.uk
