MELKSHAM is a step closer to work starting on a huge revamp of its Market Place.
Town councillors and the Melksham Christmas Lights team met with Wiltshire Council last week to discuss the work. Mayor of Melksham, cllr Terri Welch, attended the meeting and told Melksham Independent News, “Wiltshire Council is meeting with contractors on 21st June, and then we expect to have a start date for the work.
“The plans are all set in stone and I’m confident the work will go ahead as expected. We’re told it will take ten weeks to complete.
“I told the council at the meeting our number one priority is making sure the Christmas lights aren’t affected. It must be completed by the time the team need to start setting up.”
The new Market Place will be divided into a pedestrian market area, Melksham House access road, taxi rank, and disabled parking. The paved pedestrian area will start outside the town hall and stretch north up to Lloyds Bank.
