ALOERIC School waved goodbye to teacher Ruth Gould at the end of term, who was leaving to retire after 30 years at the school.
Representing the school, teacher Katherine Parker said, “Mrs Ruth Gould has been a teacher at Aloeric for 30 years. Many Melksham people will have been taught by her and she has also taught the children of ex-pupils!
“A special celebration was held for staff at the school to thank her for all her work over the years and we wish her a long and happy retirement.”
About her departure Ruth said, “How do I feel? Sad, excited, mixture of emotions, looking forward to a summer where I don’t have to think of school.
“I hope to keep in touch as I have made many friends at Aloeric as they are a great team of people.
“I have many highlights, one being when the Sea King helicopter landed on the playing field, residentials to Oxenwood, former pupils revisiting, teaching second generation of families and working under four headteachers.”
Whilst some people might think retirement might be a good opportunity to sit back and put your feet up, Ruth has big plans for the extra time on her hands. “I will have more time for me and my husband. I might compete in more muddy obstacle races, like the Rood Rampage that I completed last week.
“I’ll become a lady who lunches, rides more horses, visits the gym more often, dog-sits for friends and family, gardening, walking and going on holiday.
“If after six months I feel bored, I will look for something else.”
Ruth was the person in the know at Aloeric School and was responsible for providing Melksham News with all the latest goings on. Everyone at Melksham News would like to wish Ruth a happy retirement.
