The Avon Bowls Club is appealing for information after the recent theft of its disability ramps.
The seven-foot folding double ramps were stolen in the early hours on Sunday 10th August, around 4.45am from the club, based next to Melksham House.
“CCTV shows us a callous thief on a bike spent 20 minutes dismantling them and riding off with them over his shoulder,” said the club’s secretary, Richard Bell.
The ramps were installed following a grant from Wiltshire Council, enabling the club to purchase the equipment. Richard said the ramps have been a useful asset for people with disabilities and mobility issues, particularly for the disability club.
He said, “We are angry that somebody is so heartless as to take ramps that are there, not for the able bodied but for people who can’t walk up steps or do have great difficulty. It’s an aid for them to get them into the club to help them so they can play bowls.
“We have local disability groups going in on a Monday afternoon and they need this. Without it, I am not saying it’s impossible but it makes life very difficult for those with mobility issues.
“Avon Bowls Club would really appreciate help in identifying this heartless thief and recovering these much-needed ramps.”
