Remembrance Sunday is a key date in the Melksham diary each year when townspeople and organisations come together in services of remembrance. However, this year, due to Covid-19 restrictions, there will not be the usual parade through the town.
The town council has announced that his year’s abbreviated Remembrance event must adhere to Covid-19 secure guidelines. The council say they are very keen for an event to take place this year; however, it will need to be in a much more limited style and held in accordance with the guidelines below:
• To enable an event to go ahead at all, the general public are requested not to attend in person. Instead, the event will be live streamed by the town council via YouTube at https://bit.ly/3ddyv17 (alternatively search YouTube for Melksham Town Council channel) from 10.55am until finish (expected at 11.20am).
• There will be a maximum of two adults only able to attend from each pre-invited group of attendees; one to lay a wreath and one, if desired, to act as banner bearer.
• All participants are requested to comply with the instructions of the parade commander throughout, wear a mask (unless medically exempted) and maintain social distancing at a minimum of two metres. Hand sanitiser will be available at the memorial.
• Individuals who wish to lay a personal wreath are requested to do so privately, throughout the afternoon of Sunday 8th November, maintaining social distance as they do so.
