Area board hands out £32,000 at penultimate meeting

MELKSHAM Area Board handed out nearly £32,000 to local groups at a meeting last week, including £7,570 through its community grants scheme.

The council board gave a total of £31,935 to a number of organisations, projects, charities and clubs in the area.

The area board has £2,320 left to give out before the end of the financial year, and it will distribute the money at its final meeting on Tuesday 7th March.

Money given out at the meeting on Wednesday 8th February included: £3,665 to Broughton Gifford Scouts Group for various projects; £10,000 to Young Melksham for its youth club and new club for young people with special needs; £7,100 for a new procurement project working with young people in five areas in the community and targetting activity involvement; £2,000 to Bradford & Melksham Health Partnership for starting a Melksham Leg Club; £450 to Melksham and District Seniors Forum for its Monday Club; £650 to Melksham Neighbourhood Watch for new marketing equipment; £1,000 to    Wiltshire Mind for a new evening adult class; £1,500 to Atworth Village Hall and Recreation Committee for a new kitchen; £390.80 to Bowerhill Residents Action Group for a notice board; £250 to Melksham Ukulele Social Club for new microphones; £941.10 to Melksham Air Cadets for new tables and chairs; £936 to Melksham Country Dancers for new sound equipment; £676 to    Back on Track Stroke Rehab service for new iPads; £550 to Bulkington Parish Council for the improvement of their war memorial; £826.40 to South West in Bloom for new litter picking equipment; and £1,000 to TransWilts CIC for a toilet at the train station.
