The small, faithful band of worshippers who meet regularly at Atworth Independent Church (the Chapel by the clock) had something special to celebrate on Saturday 10th October.
Rodney Price, secretary, Atworth Independent Church reported, “We understand the church was formed around 1790 so it has been in existence for 225 years (a church is not only a building but the people who meet to praise and worship God). It was also the first anniversary of the Pastor Steve Whitaker.
“After enjoying a good tea at the village hall a good number of friends from around the area walked to the chapel for a service; the speaker and soloist being Rev. Peter Atwill from Canal Ministries. Peter also led the Sunday morning meeting.
“This was a busy few days for the members as on the Friday the bi-monthly Coffee Stop welcomed speakers from Cumbria telling us about their involvement in the work of Our Daily Bread (ODB), distributing Bible reading notes and other helpful Christian literature around the world. The free booklets they brought were available to take away.
“The previous day saw the mid-point of a Christianity Explored course which is continuing at the Chapel. We were also able to report that the offering taken at the recent Harvest Thanksgiving Service had been gratefully received by a mission organisation, Open Doors, and this should feed a Syrian refuge family for several months.
“The food produce given for the harvest was taken to Alabare in Trowbridge for them to continue their work amongst the needy in the area.
