TWO Atworth mums, inspired by the children’s television series ‘Peppa Pig’, are preparing to jump out of a plane to raise money for their local primary school.
The money raised from Zoe Gibbs and Charli Shiner’s skydive will help towards repairs to the outdoor swimming pool at Churchfields Primary School, where both their children, Gracie Gibbs and Scarlett Shiner, both aged five, attend.
The pair have set a fundraising target of £2,200 to help towards the £5,000 needed by the school.
Speaking to Melksham News, Zoe said, “It started off as a joke! Charli and I were talking about the repairs that are needed for the pool and we remembered an episode of ‘Peppa Pig’ when ‘Mummy Pig’ jumped out of a plane to raise money for repairs to the school roof! We thought that was an excellent idea and days later it was booked!
“The pool is a fantastic asset for the school and it would be such a shame if it had to close. We would like to see it keep going so it is still there when our younger children – Henry Gibbs and Olivia Shiner, who are both a year old – join the school.”
The pair will take part in the skydive in September, jumping out of a plane at a height of 10,000 feet.
“I’m excited to do it,” said Zoe. “I’ve done one before, 13 years ago, but that was at 7,000 feet – so this will be a new experience. It will be Charli’s first time – she is excited, but nervous to do it. We have been joking about who will jump first out of the plane!
“Other parents at the school think we are crazy but are cheering us on, ‘rather you than me!’ they say. And our kids, Gracie and Scarlett, are excited for us, they both want to watch and have been shouting outside the school encouraging other parents to sponsor us. Gracie even says I am braver than ‘Mummy Pig’!”
