Atworth WI wound up their 2016 activities with two evenings with a Christmas theme.
In November we had a most enjoyable evening at Lowden Garden Centre. Christine, the Florist there gave an excellent demonstration on how to make a Christmas wreath or table centre piece using wire and spagnum moss or traditional oasis as a base. She used various types of greenery, berries, cones and fruits and gave us lots of ideas. It was perfect to have the demonstration in those surroundings and we received generous hospitality from Jonathan and Alison Sinclair, the owners, who provided tea, coffee and mince pies which was very much appreciated .
In December we had our Christmas event in Atworth Village Hall where we had Christmas tastings, mulled wine, a Christmas quiz, and secret Santa presents, where we all bring a small anonymous gift and entertainment by the committee.
We collect presents to be given to adults by two charities Green Lane Hospital and Albare via WI House. Members do this every year. We also have a draw, where members interested in going to a course at Denman have the chance to get one of two bursaries available to go towards expenses.
So ends another year of varied activities, visits, courses and social awareness but above all companionship in Atworth WI.
