COMMUNITY Action: Whitley and Shaw (CAWS) recently held an auction night at The Pear Tree Inn to raise money towards the group’s projects.
The auction, which saw over 50 people turn up to bid on 30 lots donated by local businesses, took place at the beginning of December and was one of the group’s biggest fundraisers to date.
Chair of CAWS Michelle Tattersall said, “Our fantastic auctioneer Roger Hollest did a great job of encouraging the room to bid, and the CAWS committee gave all the support needed to run a seamless event. The grand total raised was over £1,100 in just over an hour!
“That money will be used in the community by CAWS to continue to improve the Shaw and Whitley villages and hold community events once again in 2016. We would welcome suggestions from residents of what to spend some of the money on.
“We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who came to the event and gave so generously; we were blown away by the bids you made.
“Also thanks to the Pear Tree Inn for being an excellent venue. And of course the event couldn’t have happened without the wonderful donations given by local businesses and residents.”
CAWS is a group formed by local residents to represent the interest of villagers, and to help improve the area’s self-sufficiency. A recent grant saw the group purchase petrol-powered water pumps to be used in the event of flooding.
