THIS year’s Holt Scarecrow Trail will present the theme of ‘fairytales and fables’ over the bank holiday weekend with special guest, award-winning author Jeremy Strong, who will be visiting on Saturday afternoon for a book signing.
Over the bank holiday weekend, Saturday 25th – Monday 27th August, take part in this year’s Holt Scarecrow Trail with the theme of ‘fairytales and fables’, a fun activity for all the family.
There is a main trail for £4 and a children’s trail for £1, which will be available to purchase from the village hall or from Holt Superstore during the weekend between 10am and 4pm each day. All proceeds will go to Holt Village Hall.
Christine Tucker, organiser of the event said, “We are so pleased with the number of entries received – we have nearly 40 so far. Some are from old-hands and some are from people new to scarecrow building. It’s going to be great fun walking around the village to visit them all and, of course, trying to identify them.
“As last year, there will be a marked shorter trail for children, with a separate puzzle for them to solve.
“We have a super selection of prizes including Bombay Sapphire self-discovery experience for two, (that’s a visit to a gin distillery for the uninitiated), a family day pass for Puxton Park, free entry for three at Boomerang Soft Play, Melksham, free bounce for four people at Bath Leisure Centre and free entry for an adult and child at Cotswold Wildlife park.
“There are also books and vouchers from local businesses, including The Tollgate Inn, The Old Ham Tree and Milestone Nursery.
“In keeping with our theme of ‘Fairytales and Fables’, we are very excited to announce that Jeremy Strong – multi-award-winning writer of such titles as ‘The Genius Aged 81/4.’and ‘Beware Killer Tomatoes’ – is visiting us and supporting the trail on Saturday afternoon.
“Jeremy, fresh from this year’s Edinburgh Festival, will be holding a book signing in the village hall from 2pm. It will be a great opportunity to meet him and chat about his books. There will be new titles on sale and if you already have some of his books, he will be happy to sign those for you as well, if you’re taking part in the trail.
“We are very grateful to Juliette and Nic of Mr B’s Emporium, Bath who are supporting the book signing and have generously offered to donate 50% of profits from the sale of the books to the village hall. Don’t forget to look at and like our Facebook page – Holt Scarecrow Trail, Wiltshire – and help us to spread the word.”
