Melksham Comic Con organisers took Melksham ‘Back to the Future’ on Saturday 18th April and are celebrating a hugely successful first immersive event, the Enchantment Under the Sea dance.
The evening was held to raise money for Parkinson’s UK and the Melksham Comic Con, and transformed Melksham Assembly Hall into the set of the 1985 sci-fi blockbuster.
Organiser, director of Melksham Comic Con, and now town councillor Hayley Spencer said, “It was hugely entertaining and fully immersive – a roaring success! Hundreds of people dressed in 50s outfits and as characters from the hit movie of 1985 and descended on Melksham Assembly Hall to enjoy an evening of live music and dancing.
“Everyone was treated to surprise scene re-enactments from the movie including George McFly standing up to Biff, Marty McFly playing rock and roll at the dance, and Principal Strickland ensuring attendees weren’t slacking!
“We raised hundreds of pounds for Melksham Comic-Con and Parkinson’s UK through ticket sales and a raffle halfway through the night.
“We’d like to thank a number of people who donated their time, energy and goods and services to make the event so successful; Paul Weymouth of Light Fantastic for providing all the lighting to set the evening; Dave Hickory for all the balloon modelling centrepieces; The Blues Riffin B’s for creating their band especially for the evening; all the Assembly Hall staff for their hard work all night and assistance, and Alex Goodhind and his team for their help with sound engineering.
“For donating to the raffle we’d like to thank local businesses Casa, Steamers, LA Diner, Costa Coffee, KomiX, All Things Chic, The King’s Arms, Vibrant Faces Face Painting, Boomerang Family Play Centre, Christie Miller Sports Centre, Wiltshire Chilli Farm, Countrywide and many more national and local companies from outside of Melksham.
“The night was so successful we are hoping to return with another immersive event in 2016; watch this space!”
Attendee Chloe Boyce said, “It was the most fun I’ve had in years, I wish every Saturday night could be this great!”
