Yet again Beanacre and Melksham were up against opposition who were playing in a lot higher level than them last season. The difference in class was soon evident as the visitors’ openers were soon punishing any loose deliveries.
After losing Entwhistle in the 7th over Biddestone’s Merriman (89) & Knight (84) put on 111 in 15 overs, before a couple of quick wickets gave the home side some hope. This was short lived though as Ellaway (58) & Evans (44*) added 109 for the 6th wicket in just 9 overs as the visitors closed on an imposing 319/6.
BAM were never going to chase down their target and so tried to amass as many bonus points as possible. They were unable to build any meaningful partnerships as wickets fell at regular intervals. Watling (21) Heywood (20) & Cameron (16) all got starts but couldn’t carry on the chase. It was left to youngster Dan Watts (37) & not so young Andy Footner (28*) to add 51 for the last wicket as the home side were all out for 144.
Big thanks again to match sponsors Autotech.
