A Melksham charity shop is inviting local bikers to clear their cupboards and garages in support of a special fundraising event.
The Barnardo’s store in Verbena Court, behind the Water Meadow restaurant, is providing a stall at the Calne Bike Meet on Saturday 27th July.
The annual free event attracts hundreds of motorcyclists, so the charity is keen to collect donations which will appeal to visitors.
The money raised will support the charity’s work with vulnerable and disadvantaged children across the UK.
Barnardo’s manager Helen West said, “This is the first time we’ve been involved with the Calne Bike Meet but we hope to raise lots of money if we can find plenty of donations to interest the biker community.
“We’re keen to receive good-quality leather jackets and trousers, gloves, boots, body armour, high-visibility clothing, panniers, boxes and rucksacks.
“We’d also be interested in any motorcycle-related books such as tour guides, maintenance manuals, autobiographies and motorsports histories, plus films.
“The only items we can’t accept are helmets, but we’d be happy for people to call us first if they want to check anything.
“Hopefully it will be a good opportunity for local bikers to recycle their unwanted items so that other people can enjoy them too.”
The Barnardo’s store is open Monday-Saturday from 9am-5pm and on Sundays from 10am-4pm.
The team always welcome donations of good-quality clothes, books, toys, games, CDs, DVDs, bric-a-brac and accessories, as well as offers of help from volunteers. Call (01225) 436806.
