Bomb experts called after builders’ discovery in Bowerhill

BUILDERS working on the new Herman Miller site had a shock during construction work when they found an old World War Two bomb. 

The discovery at Bowerhill led to the police being called and in turn bomb disposal experts who were quickly on site to cordon off nearby pathways before checking the bomb which turned out to be from World War Two and had already exploded.

PC Barry Dalton who was at the scene said, “An army unit from Tidworth came to check the device which had been exposed during the site excavation. They x-rayed it and removed it from the site once they established it was safe. Their evaluation was that it would have been an airborne device that would have been dropped during World War Two.

“Thankfully the only real disruption was to the odd dog walker as this area is popular with them.”
