LOCAL swimmer Rachel Williams is hoping to make the Welsh team for the Commonwealth Games after gaining a top ten finish in the British Gas Swimming Championships in Glasgow.
The Melksham swimmer came seventh in the 100m backstroke final, clocking a time of 1.02.64
She also recorded a personal best in the 200m freestyle with a time of 2.02.60 – placing her 17th.
She’s hoping the performances will be enough to clinch her a place in the Welsh team for Commonwealth Games to be held in Glasgow in July and August.
Rachel said, “It’s a nice personal best in the 200 this morning, it’s not my best event so I’m happy with the result
“I’m chuffed with my solid and overly consistent 100 backstroke final tonight. Now to prepare my body for the 800 front crawl tomorrow.”
In the 800m frontcrawl Rachel came 12th with a time of 8.49.77 and 12th in the 400m freestyle with 4.16.84.
Last year Rachel won four medals at the British Gas ASA National Age Group Championships 19 and over, hauling in one gold, one silver and two bronzes.
The gold came in the 800m freestyle, the silver was a Welsh individual medley record in the 400m. The two bronze medals came in 100m and 200m backstrokes.
