MELKSHAM’S budding ballerinas from the Melksham School of Ballet, Tap & Modern took their first ballet exams last month.
The school reports, “Under the guidance of Jayne Green, the youngsters bravely stepped into the studio to perform everything they have been learning and preparing for the last year.
“With regulation pink leotards, skirts and soft satin ballet slippers on, the girls had their hair put up in buns and adorned with flowers and were ready to put their best foot forward.
“The first exam with the Royal Academy of Dance allows the teacher in with the group to give the children a taste of ballet exams to come. Jayne was allowed to accompany the dancers into the exam room and instruct them in exercises that demonstrate rhythm and technique as well as imaginative dance routines, where the dancers tell a story through dance about getting ready to go to a ball and finally dancing at the ball, with leaps and turns and pointed toes!”
Jayne said, “It was challenging during lockdown trying to teach dance steps on Zoom, but we persevered, and it’s been great to have a more normal year of teaching. We had over 50 dancers taking exams over the two days. From the youngest dancers taking their first Pre-Primary exam to the older girls taking their Grade 5 ballet. I’m really proud of them all and now we all have to wait patiently for the results.”
