This has been an extremely busy time for the club.
Some members enjoyed a three day trip to visit Chatsworth in Derbyshire to see the Christmas decorations. Despite freezing fog (as Chatsworth is in a valley), the magnificence of the house was apparent. The theme was ‘Alice in Wonderland’ – all the rooms depicted scenes from the story and it was all very inter-active and the staff were delightful. After visiting the farm shop, where all delicious Christmas goodies could be purchased, members called in at the Denby factory on the way back.
Another treat with a full coach was the visit to Wells to see the Winter Wonderland that demonstrators from the SW Area of NAFAS had decorated the Bishop’s Palace. This was enjoyed by everyone and proved to be a very popular trip.
Some members demonstrated wreath making at the Whitehall Garden Centre Ladies Night which was a great success. This was followed by two practical wreath making workshops at Whitehall facilitated by two members and was greatly enjoyed by the participants.
The final club meeting of the year was a visit form national demonstrator, Michael Bowyer from Salisbury, who came and entertained members with his demonstration ‘The Merry Bells of Yule’ and the club welcomed friends from other local clubs.
By the end of his demonstration Michael had transformed the hall at Spencers Sports Club with his magnificent arrangements and everyone wanted to win one in the raffle! The vote of thanks was given by Susie Rawstron.
The club will reassemble on Tuesday 20th January 2015 at Spencers Sports & Social Club and the subject will be ‘Everything Stops for Tea’ at 2.00pm.
