The Town travelled to meet Cadbury Heath in the 3rd of eight consecutive league games away from home that will bring an end to their excellent season to date.
In the only change from the previous game Dan King replaced Shaun Benison.
The home side started well and after only two minutes the visitors were relieved to see Bennett miss a good opportunity to score. The home side were made to pay for the miss on eight minutes when central defender Ryan Bennet rose at the far post to nod in a delightful Ben Thomson corner for his eighth goal of the season and put the Town 1-0 ahead.
This signalled a sustained period of pressure for the Town and on 14 minutes they pulled further ahead when Will Stead powered home a header from another Thomson cross for his first goal of the season.
The home side were finding it difficult to keep the Melksham attack under wraps and on 16 minutes Melksham went 3-0 ahead when Mike Perrott latched onto a loose ball in the box and with the aid of slight deflection hit home his effort.
The Town were now rampant and on 20 minutes went 4-0 up when Perrott smashed home a 20 yard left foot half volley into the net and seemingly put the game out of reach of the shocked home side.
Still Town poured forward and Dan Kovacs saw his close range header brilliantly saved by Crawford and will have been disappointed to see his follow up effort sail over from close range.
On 35 minutes the home side created an opportunity which saw Town keeper Rob Brown at full stretch to keep out a Boon effort, and on 38 minutes Brown again excelled when his outstretched arm turned away a point blank effort from Reeves who found himself unmarked in the Town box.
As the half time whistle blew King had to be replaced by Omar Simpson due to injury and the half time interval was reached with Melksham 4-0 ahead and the game effectively won. The second half saw a much improved performance from the home side as Melksham understandably took their foot of the gas and Brown again saved from a Boon effort in the early minutes of the second period.
On 55 minutes Perrott, who enjoyed a superb game in the centre of the Town midfield, was replaced by Leigh Rogers with the heavy schedule in mind.
Just before the hour mark the homeside gained a deserved reward for their efforts when the ever dangerous Huxley nodded home from close range, although almost immediately at the other end Gary Higdon saw his effort scrambled off the line by Crawford.
With 20 minutes remaining Ibrahim replaced the influential Thomson, and the first caution of the game arrived on 76 minutes when Reeves challenge went punished.
As the game entered the last 10 minutes a fine pass from Kovacs left Higdon through with a clear run on goal but his attempt to dribble the ball around Crawford in the home goal was thwarted by the keeper, and as the game ended Kovacs picked up a silly booking for a handball in the visitors goal mouth.
The final whistle saw the Town continue their fine run of form which leaves them in good shape with the final few weeks of the season set to unfurl.
