YOUNG Melksham is appealing for volunteers to help support the club’s ongoing work in the community, delivering a wide range of services for the youth of the town.
The local charity has highlighted their Tuesday evening club, which offers support and activities to Years 5 and 6, as most in need of new volunteers.
Young Melksham runs clubs on weeknights and activities during school holidays, and also additional services such as advice and counselling.
Chairman of Young Melksham, Jon Hubbard said, “Our youth clubs attract almost 200 young people every week to the Canberra Centre, and we love creating activities and providing the facilities to help these wonderful young people have a great time.
“Our amazing but small staff team is supported by a fantastic team of volunteers, without whom we just couldn’t cope, and we are looking for some extra special people to help us – especially on a Tuesday evening.
“We sometimes have as many as 120 young people from Years 5 and 6 come along on a Tuesday night and that means we need plenty of responsible adults to make sure everyone is safe and enjoying themselves.
“The jobs vary from helping in the kitchen, running the tuck shop, signing the young people in when they arrive, updating the computer with the details of the young people present, as well ask actively engaging with the young people and joining in the party games! We have loads of different roles and can always find one that suits you!
“The commitment isn’t huge, even if you could only help one week a month, that could make a huge difference and would mean that we can continue to deliver quality youth work for Melksham’s young people.
“Full training and support is provided, and we also can give you the opportunity to gain certificates in Emergency First Aid at Work, Food and Hygiene and Safeguarding. All volunteers are required to have an enhanced DBS check, which we will pay for.”
