A LOCAL care home is launching a ‘Teapot Tuesday’ group to tackle loneliness in older people.
On the first Tuesday of every month, starting on 3rd November, The Old Parsonage Care Home, based in Broughton Gifford will open its doors to the public and invite people in for a cup of tea, a slice of home-made cake and a good old natter.
Home manager Elyss Vezitiu said loneliness in older people was a serious issue, particularly with the nights closing in, and the home wanted to offer a space where people could come and meet on a regular basis.
She said, “The idea of Teapot Tuesday is to be able to meet your neighbours and have a friendly chat within a warm, welcoming and homely environment – with a slice of delicious cake!
“We currently have a significant loneliness issue in this country amongst the older generation, particularly as winter is approaching and we wanted to do our little bit to support our community.”
Elyss took over management of the home in June and has been working hard to create a caring and supportive environment for residents and their families.
She added, “One of my aims as the new manager was to make sure the Old Parsonage had great community links that our residents can enjoy and now I want to give something back to the local people.
“Even though our residents have complex needs there is no reason for them not to enjoy social occasions and I feel the same about all older people.
“If any local groups or businesses would like to be involved in this initiative in some way we would love to hear from you – Tel: 01225 782167 / 01225 783793 – or do stop by on 3rd November.”
Teapot Tuesday will launch on Tuesday 3rd November from 2.00-4.00pm, is free to attend and refreshments are provided. It will then take place on the first Tuesday of every month.
Any local businesses or groups who wish to support the initiative can call Elyss on 01225 782167.
