MELKSHAM Carnival and Party in the Park will no longer run side-by-side on the same day, as the carnival committee gets set to host its own family fun day next year.
After years of combining forces, the carnival and Party in the Park will take place on separate weekends in July 2016. Party in the Park is scheduled for Saturday 16th July, with the carnival and fun day following on Saturday 23rd July.
Melksham Carnival Committee is planning a free to enter family fun day at the King George V playing field, with the carnival procession following in the early evening.
Carnival secretary Beth Dark said, “Next year’s carnival day is set to be a nostalgic return to the good old days with a family fun day in the park. We hope this event will have a great family atmosphere and a huge sense of community spirit.
“This will also be a great opportunity for businesses and charities to get involved by having a stall during the day, or joining in the procession.”

Melksham Party in the Park is set to continue its tried and tested formula as the hugely popular family day out enters its 17th year. Wheels are in motion as the committee starts work on next year’s event, which will be held in King George V playing field on Saturday 23rd July.
Event organiser Bruce Burry said, “We are pleased to confirm that plans are already under way to create a day of outstanding entertainment.
“At the same time we are sorry to be informed that the carnival committee is planning a separate event and breaking away from the tried and tested formula of sharing the day. We do, though, wish Melksham Carnival every success with their new venture.”
The first Party in the Park took place in 2000 and each year it has grown in popularity, with over 6,000 people attending the event in 2015.
