With Halloween around the corner, Melksham Town Council has announced three events to get you in a supernatural mood this October.
Online Pumpkin Carving and Fancy Dress Competitions are to be held while the Assembly Hall will be showing the horror classic The Shining, its first film since lockdown.
Despite the usual parties and events not happening, Halloween is still a great time for colourful creativity which you can enjoy at home, says the council. Children and adults are invited to share pictures of their creations in two virtual events, the Melksham Pumpkin Carving Competition, and a Fancy Dress Competition.
Photos of your carved pumpkins are requested before midday on Saturday 31st October, and photos of your fancy dress outfits are welcome before 6pm on the 31st. There will be categories for adults and children (under 12) for both Pumpkins and Fancy Dress and all photos submitted will be shared on the Town Council facebook page on Saturday 31 October. The winners will be decided by the amount of ‘likes’ each photo generates. Photos must be taken in the Melksham area, and all creations must be respectful and inoffensive. The Assembly Hall is also excited to be showing its first film since lockdown, and in suitable seasonal spookiness, will be hosting a spine-chilling showing of The Shining on Friday 30th October at 7pm (subject to current government advice). The original, 144-minute US theatrical cut of Stanley Kubrick’s terrifying adaptation of Stephen King’s classic horror novel features 25 minutes of material not seen in the UK cut. Tickets can be bought online at www.melkshamassembly.co.uk. The film is certificate 15, doors open at 6.30pm, and all necessary Covid measures and social distancing will be in place.
