Three regulars from the West End Inn in Melksham donned their Lycra over the weekend to cycle from the pub to the Wee Waif in Reading, raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support in the process.
Dean Taylor, Matthew Gurke and Russell Poulsom, decided to set themselves the challenge of cycling around 80 miles along the Kennet and Avon Canal on Saturday 5th September.
The trio began their challenge at 6.30am and finished at the Hungry Horse pub in Reading five hours and 27 minutes later. In total they managed to raise over £500 for Macmillan.
Dean, who is married to the manager of the West End, Stacey Larkins, said, “Matt came and suggested the ride to Russell and me, and we were more than happy to get involved. We have all been touched by Macmillan at different times in our lives and the challenge seemed like a fun one to do. The ride was pretty enjoyable and we are really pleased with how much we were able to raise.”
The ride has kicked off a month of fundraising for Macmillan at the West End Inn, running up to the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning on Friday 25th September and a super heroes’ car wash on Saturday 26th September.
