TWO businesses in Melksham, Travis Perkins and Knorr-Bremse, went head to head for the third time in a charity football match, raising the sum of £2,115.61 for Macmillan Cancer Support and Wiltshire Air Ambulance.
The team from Travis Perkins reigned supreme following a close game ending 3-3, with the team in green running away 5-3 on penalties.
Assistant branch manager at Travis Perkins, Melksham, Robbie Newton, also ‘braved the shave’ during halftime at the match to increase his own fundraising total. He is taking part in a number of running challenges across 2019, already completing 34 different events across the country including the Edinburgh Marathon and the ‘Race to the Stones,’ all dressed as #charitymorphman.
He said, “If my fundraising page reached £1,000 by the end of May I said I would get my head shaved. It’s safe to say that I hit that target and decided I would have it shaved at half-time for the big game. It feels a bit strange not having hair, but I am sure it will soon grow back!
“In terms of the event, I was a little concerned at first due to the fact the weather was not looking great! This did not seem to put people off though as there was a really great turn out.
“The stalls remained busy, especially the raffle which raised £572 alone! It was a really nice touch as many local people pulled together and helped on the day and in the lead up to the day without charge, to enable us to raise even more for the charities.
“Congratulations to Travis Perkins for taking the trophy after a tense penalty shoot out! Bring on the rematch in 2019.”
