A SUMMER event will see Melksham Town Ladies FC and Melksham Ladies Rugby FC showdown on the pitch for charity.
The football fundraiser will take place on Sunday 18th July on the infiLED arena stadium pitch at Oakfields, and will raise money for Wiltshire Air Ambulance and Splitz Support Service.
Organiser Melanie Paterson explains, “We have chosen to raise funds for each of these local charities as both of them have continued to provide fantastic work during the last 12 months despite the challenging circumstances that they have faced throughout Covid-19.
“The Wiltshire Air Ambulance is a charity that relies solely on donations to keep saving lives. It is not funded directly by the government and receives no national grants.
“And Splitz Support Service is our other chosen local charity to raise funds for. The charity offers support to victims and survivors of domestic abuse. Due to the numerous amounts of lockdowns over the last year, self isolation has left many women, men and children confined with their abuser for 24hours/7days a week, for weeks with few opportunities to connect with family and friends.
“Splitz currently support over 100 families and individuals within the Melksham area providing 1-1 support, information, advocacy and sign posting. Both the football team and the rugby team are extremely passionate, as women’s sports teams, to be able to give back to the local community and thank them for everything they have done over the last 12 months during such an unprecedented time.”
On the day there will also be a penaly shootout, family fun, a bar, and a charity raffle. The teams will kick off at 2pm for the main event.
Melanie adds, “We’re currently looking for donations for the raffle from businesses. I’ve managed to drum up quite a few already but would be great to try and get a few more.”
To offer a donation, businesses can contact Melanie on 07880 364841, or by email: melaniepaterson22@ hotmail.com
