There is still time for children to sign up for Melksham Library’s Summer Reading Challenge.
The theme this year is Story Garden – adventures in nature and the great outdoors. The challenge encourages children aged four to 11 years old to read six books over the summer holidays and they can collect various prizes, a certificate and a badge on completion.
According to Melksham Library, last year 89% said the challenge made them feel happy and 84% said it helped them to enjoy reading.
Organisers say, “Children can read any books of their choice; they don’t have to be linked to the theme and they can read/listen to eBooks and audiobooks as well. Although the challenge is to read six books, there is flexibility in this number, especially for children who struggle with reading or read longer books.
“Books on the official Story Garden book collection list are available to reserve and borrow for free from any Wiltshire library. The list includes a mix of fiction and picture books, early readers and middle grade titles, non-fiction, poetry and graphic novels, plus several dyslexia friendly.”
Children must be library members to take part, and it is free to become a member.
