What a year it has been in Melksham.
Our magnificent Bloom team have done the town proud yet again with another spectacular display of flowers, flags and a Market Place Bee we will never forget that was all richly rewarded with yet another South West in Bloom Gold Award.
Celebrating 800 years of the town’s Market Charter and the wonderful Town Criers’ competition, we are so lucky to have our amazing Town Crier, Peter Dauncey, and his lovely wife Joan who supports Peter’s work. Thank you to you both for all you do.
It has been wonderful to see the improvements to the King George V Playing Fields, the new fitness equipment, additional pathways and, of course, the fantastic new Splash Pad.
The wonderful new Melksham Makers’ Markets have seen our Market Place brought to life once a month during the summer months with a great indoor winter market in the Assembly Hall. Thanks to Nicola, Sarah and the team for delivering these.
Our new Community Expo held in September celebrates much of what is great in Melksham, with community groups sharing details of the services they offer and providing details of new volunteering opportunities for local residents.
There has been so much done by our wonderful team at the Town Council and I would like to take this opportunity, on behalf of all of the Town Councillors, to say a massive thank you to the whole team. Thank you to the team in the Town Hall who work so hard to facilitate and deliver all of the ambitions of the Councillors, to the Assembly Hall team who provide such a great venue with a fantastic, eclectic mix of shows and activities for the community, and a special thank you to the Amenities Team who have worked so very hard this year to keep Melksham looking so amazing.
I suspect the Council’s staff never really realise just how grateful we are for all that they do. They work so hard and we really are lucky to have such a great team. I would like to take a moment to give a special shout out to one team member who has been with the Council for over 20 years and is now moving on to pastures new. Thanks Lorraine, for all you have done for the Town and the Council. We wish you luck in your new role; the Town Hall will not be the same without you.
As I write this, I know that the phenomenal Christmas Lights’ team are hard at work putting together this year’s display and I would like to extend the grateful thanks of the town to them once again for all that they do.
Melksham sees so much happen all year round, delivered by amazing people who work so hard in their own time to make our town a better place to live. Many of those people just quietly work behind the scenes, cracking on with delivering and making things happen with no thought to personal praise or thanks.
I’ve had the honour of meeting many of those during the year and would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who gives up their time to support activities, organisations or people in our town. Every one of you is an absolute hero and you are what makes Melksham one of the best places to live. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for all you do.
As we look forward to 2020 may Annette and I, together with everyone at the Town Council, take this opportunity to wish everyone in Melksham a wonderful Christmas.
