A Communal growing space based on Woodrow Road, which recently received £4,500 from the National Garden Scheme (NGS), has been presented with a plaque to commemorate its work and celebrate the grant.
Meadowbrook CIC is a non-for-profit social enterprise that has created a communal growing space, a shelter, a sharing and performing area, a fire circle, an orchid and beehives.
The project was one of 40 projects nationwide selected for the funds in 2022 and was visited on 17th September by Ros Ford from the NGS, who presented them with a commemorative plaque.
“We were running one of our Project DIG sessions on the day she visited, so she saw folk taking part in our second pilot growing scheme and we showed her around the site,” explained one of the founders of the space, Grace Dalgleish.
“The space will be used more and more come next spring and we plan to run further weekly supported sessions for anyone experiencing mental and physical health challenges as well as those experiencing social isolation.
“This year we have also worked with local home-educated young people and some are continuing to visit us and volunteer. We are looking forward to it coming to life next year and being good for lots of people.”
