MELKSHAM’S Community Christmas Dinner is back, but in a new place and with new faces for 2021.
Having hosted the event since 2007, Core Church are now passing on the baton to Queensway Chapel. Gavin and Naomi Owen of Core Church, who have organised the event until now, are leaving Melksham after 21 years serving the local community, in order to be closer to family.
“Finding a new home for the Christmas Day meal was top of our list of things to do before moving on,” said Gavin, “Our friends at Queensway Chapel were the first people we thought of and we were delighted when they agreed to take on the challenge.
“Their base on Pembroke Road will make an excellent venue for the event and we’ve given them all the equipment we’ve acquired over the years, but most importantly they have a heart to share God’s love at Christmas with anyone who wants to join them.
“I encourage everyone who has supported us over the years to lend their support to the new team. Just like us, they will need volunteers from the community to join them on the day to make the event possible.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has helped us over the 13 Christmases that we ran the event – there are too many to mention here, but you know who you are and you know that what you did made a difference to hundreds of people.”
The new organisers of the Christmas meal are Rob and Jan Lloyd. Rob said, “Having just retired as a project manager, this is a worthy cause to get our teeth into and we look forward to a great time on 25th December.”
Contact information for booking a place at the meal or volunteering to help will appear in a future issue of Melksham News.
