RESIDENTS from Hazelwood Road and the surrounding area are celebrating following a win of £4,000 to help replace the overgrown and dangerous pathways in Brunswick Park.
Chair of the Friends of Brunswick Park group, Tracy Haslam, applied for the community funding through a scheme called ‘Your Pint Can’ run by Carling and Wetherspoons.
The fund will pay for the materials for the pathways on Brunswick Park, at the far end of Hazelwood Road, to be replaced.
Organisers are now asking for Melksham residents to come and help with the labour needed to complete the works.
“We are so pleased to have won this funding, but now we need local people to come and help us make it happen,” said Tracy.
“We need people who can help with the manual labour required to dig the existing paths out ready for the new paths to be laid. We have 165 metres of path to dig out, so we would really appreciate all the help we can get.”
Melksham South councillor Jon Hubbard commented, “I am so impressed with Tracy and the whole team from Brunswick Park. They have adopted this park area and really want to help make a difference here. They have taken the initiative and gone out to make things happen themselves, not just wait to see what someone else does for them. I’m looking forward to getting stuck in and helping make this happen!”
The work will start on bank holiday weekend with teams out working on Saturday 26th and Monday 28th August between 11am and 3pm. Work will then continue every weekend throughout September with the exception of the 2nd/3rd to avoid clashing with the Melksham Food and River Festival. Refreshments will be provided for all those who help.
The scheme has the support of Wiltshire Council and their contractor idverde UK, who will be helping with the laying of the new paths once the ground has been prepared.
