The Community Larder is due to expand to the Forest Community Centre on Friday mornings, as part of a trial to give Forest residents easier access to the service, which helps reduce food waste.
The larder will run from the centre’s Community Café, which is open every Friday morning from 10am to 12pm. The first session at this location will be on Friday 27th June.
“Volunteers from the larder will sort food and it will be taken to the Forest Community Centre,” said organiser Adrienne Westbrook.
Melksham Community Larder started three years ago and operates out of the Round House near the Post Office in the town centre. Volunteers collect food from supermarkets and various other sources to save it from going to landfill; the food is then redistributed to residents. Everyone is welcome to use the service.
Following the success of the larder, the organisers also launched a Community Wardrobe in the upstairs of the Round House, offering donations of clothes to people in need.
