Melksham Community Meals was given a much-appreciated boost last week with a donation of £1,000 from the Asda Foundation.
Melksham Community Meals launched in February this year, replacing the Melksham Lunch Club, which was axed by Wiltshire Council last year.
Organiser Sue Mortimer said, “It’s an amazing donation, and really shows that the whole community is behind this project. The money will help to take the pressure off the running costs, however we are doing really well at the moment.
“For February I budgeted for 150 people to use the service – 212 used the service, creating a £500 profit. We are also above target for this month. As long as people keep coming, we will keep serving meals.”
Community champion Lisa Jenkins from the Asda Melksham store added, “I was thrilled to realise that I may be able to help the team and was keen to put in an application to see what I could do. When the full amount was granted, I was over the moon for the team as I know how hard they all work and how valuable this service is to our local community.
“I am so proud to be able to support our local community and the wonderful people who give so much to improving the services offered.”
Melksham Community Meals is open to everyone in the community, offering a place for people to meet and socialise, serving food at the Assembly Hall two days a week.
The service at the Assembly Hall normally runs Fridays and Sundays 12pm – 2pm. Upcoming dates for the service are: Friday 29th March, Friday 5th April, Sunday 7th April, Friday 12th April, Sunday 14th April and Wednesday 17th April. To book, call the Assembly Hall on 01225 709887.
