A charity concert which was held at Melksham Assembly Hall has raised £2,940.43 for local charity Wiltshire Mind.
The evening’s entertainment came from local girl group The Female Of The Species, a group specially formed for the annual event. The band which was put together by Julia Greenland and Julie Moreton, is made up of five women who front local bands, who come together to raise money for local charities.
Julie Moreton said, “We’ve raised over £6,000 for local charities in the past two years and hope to continue for many years. As long as the charities need us, we will be here for them.”
Julia Greenland said, “Wiltshire Mind is a charity close to our hearts, so raising money for them was great. They do such an amazing job in the community and we’re very lucky to have them.”
Chief executive of Wiltshire Mind, Carolyn Beale said, “We were thrilled to hear that they were raising money for Wiltshire Mind. We don’t receive any funding from the government or the national charity Mind, so we rely solely on fundraising and donations.
“The money will help us offer more services and we also hope to move into a new office space to meet the growing needs of Wiltshire.”
Julie continued, “It was a superb night and we are over the moon with the amount we raised. Thank you so much to all those who helped us organise the concert and everyone who was involved.
“We will now start planning next year’s event which we will be doing for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance. They do a fantastic job so we hope to raise as much money for them as we can. We’re local girls raising money for local charities who want to make a difference in our community.”
