‘CONTACT the Elderly’ in Melksham is looking for local tea party hosts.
‘Contact the Elderly’ is a organisation that has groups throughout the country and back in 2013 Melksham’s own group was launched.
Volunteer Martin Elson who runs the Melksham group said, “Our Melksham group needs local hosts to host a tea party once or twice a year. New elderly applications are most welcome.
“Once a month, 12 months a year, we take out to tea local isolated elderly people, 75 and over. This regular monthly outing makes a huge difference to the life of an isolated person and gives them something to look forward to.
“There is a huge problem with lonely elderly people who may only see one or two people the whole week. Some don’t see anybody at all, just their carer, who shoots in for only a very short time.
“These monthly tea parties – really only a large tea pot and some cakes – provide a chance to meet up with the same people each month and have a good chat. Imagine how this feels to a lonely, isolated person!
“I am in need for more tea party hosts. It’s only for maybe twice a year on the third Sunday in the month. The parties are always good fun, surprising really. These elderly folk blossom when in the company of similar people and a nice cuppa just oils the wheels.
“If you would like to make a difference in your community and really enjoy a very happy tea party please contact me on 707534. For more details visit www.contact-the-elderly.org.uk or follow us on Twitter and join us on Facebook.
