MELKSHAM & District Link is appealing for new volunteer drivers and co-ordinators to help run the ‘taxi charity’.
“Voluntary Drivers are urgently needed,” said Jeanette Nash from the group. “Link drivers are wonderful people who take local people to hospital and other medical appointments. The drivers collects the person from their home and take them to their appointment, waits for them and takes them back again. The drivers receive a fuel allowance for every mile covered. The position is ideal for anyone recently retired and looking for something to fill the gap, the hours, days and times are entirely flexible; drivers work when they want which need not be the same every week.
“This is the ideal volunteering job for people who do not want to be tied to a particular day or job every week. Drivers can choose to do only local or longer journeys i.e. Bath, Swindon.
“We are also hoping to recruit a few more Volunteer Transport Co-ordinators. This invaluable job is to answer the phone [mobile provided] or pick up messages from people who wish to book LINK transport and then pass the message on to one of the Drivers.
“At the moment we have four people so they each do one week in four; they would love to have some help to share the duties. Without all the amazing volunteers there would be no LINK!”
