COUNCILLORS Colin Goodhind and Sue Mortimer got up early on Bank Holiday Monday to clear the leaves by the skate park area in a two-hour stint from 7am-9am.
“Our efforts were praised by passers-by although some thought it should be the job of the council,” said cllr Mortimer. “We explained about the staff shortages and that we were fed up of the sight of the leaves, so decided to do something about it ourselves.
“After we took the leaves up to an allotment at Awdry Avenue; the pile of fallen leaves were such an unsightly mess – but all that decomposing foliage is perfect organic matter for a great pile of compost. So, Win, Win I think!”
