A MELKSHAM couple recently celebrated a huge milestone – their platinum anniversary – having been married for 70 years.
Tom Montague and Mary Sadler celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary at Melksham’s Alpine Villa Residential Care Home with their family last Saturday.
Mary, a village girl, met Tom at a dance in The Manor House, Colerne in 1944. Tom was serving with the RAF stationed at Colerne during the war.
They married in 1947 and both remained in Colerne, raising six children who now make up an extended family of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Mary and Tom would like to thank all friends, family and staff of Alpine Villa for helping them celebrate their special day.
The record for the UK’s longest married is believed to be held by a couple in Essex, who have been married for 77 years.
