A COUPLE from Melksham have donated £1,820 to Dorothy House and the Wiltshire Air Ambulance, raised from a party they held for their 25th wedding anniversary.
Michael and Teresa Wiltshire held a big party at Melksham Assembly Hall but instead of receiving gifts, they asked for donations for their chosen charities, Dorothy House Hospice Care and the Wiltshire Air Ambulance.
Teresa said, “We have everything we need so we thought it would be much better to raise money for charity than receive presents. Dorothy House is very close to our hearts. We have had family and friends affected by illness and have relied on their wonderful services.
“We chose the Wiltshire Air Ambulance because you never know when you or a loved one might need them. They receive no government help and rely solely on fundraising and donations.”
Ellie Dale, community fundraiser for Dorothy House said, “We are so grateful to Michael and Teresa – they are very generous. The money will pay for a wide range of essential services.”
“Sara Bakewell, volunteer and merchandise assistant for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance said, “We were absolutely delighted to hear Michael and Teresa had chosen to donate half the amount to us. It costs £3.2million a year to run the charity, so every penny counts. We are so grateful and can’t thank them enough.”
